KBA ANNUAL BANQUET During the convention's Annual Banquet held in the Bluegrass Ballroom at the Lex- ington Convention Center on Thursday, June 18, outgoing KBA President William E. Johnson presented the 2015 Distin- guished Lawyer Award to Louisville attorney K. Gregory Haynes , and the Distinguished Judge Award to Phillip Shepherd , Franklin County Chief Circuit Judge . Lexington at- torney Pete Perlman was awarded the President's Special Service Award by Presi- dent Johnson. Chief Justice John D. Minton, Jr., presented the Chief Justice's Spe- cial Service Award to Daviess County Chief District Judge Lisa P. Jones , honor- i ng her dedication to family law and juvenile justice. Following the awards, the KBA's new Officers and Bar Governors for 2015-2016 were sworn into office by Chief Justice Minton. New of- ficers include Douglass Farnsley from Louisville as President; President-Elect R . Michael Sullivan , Owensboro; Vice President William R. Garmer , Lexington; William E. Johnson as Immediate Past President; and Young Lawyers Division Chairman J. Tanner Watkins. Bar Governors receiving the oath of office were Michael M. Pitman , Murray, 1 st Supreme Court District (SCD); John David Meyer , Owensboro, 2nd SCD; Howard O. Mann , Corbin, 3rd SCD; Amy D. Cubbage , Louisville, 4th SCD; Mindy Barfield , Lex- ington, 5th SCD; J. Stephen Smith , Ft. Mitchell, 6th SCD; and Earl M. "Mickey" McGuire , Prestonsburg, 7th SCD. Other Kentucky Bar Governors recognized for their continuing service were W. Fletch- er Schrock, Paducah, 1 st SCD; Thomas N. Kerrick , Bowling Green, 2 nd SCD; Melinda Gillum Dalton , Somerset, 3 rd SCD; Bobby Simpson , Louisville, 4 th SCD; Eileen M. O'Brien , Lexington, 5 th SCD; and Gary J. Sergent , Covington, 6 th SCD; and John F. Vincent of Ashland, 7 th SCD. Also honored were retiring KBA President Johnson ; Immediate Past President Thomas L. Rouse and outgoing YLD Chair Brad Sayles , Nashville. KBA MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON The annual membership luncheon was held on Friday, June 19th, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Prior to the luncheon President Johnson and Chief Justice Minton hon- ored the attorneys who achieved senior counselor status. Following their ceremony the senior counselors attended the mem- bership luncheon and watched a touching tribute to recognize their years of service. This year 113 attorneys were recognized as senior counselors. President Johnson pre- sented the Bruce K. Davis Bar Service Award to Brian Scott West , who serves as general counsel for the Department of Public Advo- cacy, Richmond. Johnson later presented the 2015 Donated Legal Services Award to Alli- son Connelly, professor at the University of Kentucky College of Law, Lexington, and to Jeff Been , executive director of the Legal Aid Society, Louisville, to recognize all of their pro bono efforts. Young Lawyers Divi- sion Chair Brad Sayles presented the Nathaniel A. Harper Diversity Award to Justice William E. McAnulty, Jr ., posthumously, accepting his award was KBA Past Presi- dent and Louisville attorney Margaret E. Keane . To conclude the luncheon 2015 An- nual Convention Chairs Anita Britton and William Garmer received plaques from President Johnson , who thanked them for all of their hard work and dedication to the 2015 KBA Annual Convention. Minton, Jr., addressed the audience during the opening session of the convention. University of Louisville Professor Grace M. Giesel presented, "Test Your Ethics IQ!" on Thursday morning of the convention. Attendees interacted with speakers and panelists by asking questions during presentations. 2015 KBA ANNUAL CONVENTION ANNUAL BANQUET AND MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON The convention not only provides attendees an opportunity to receive their continuing legal education credits, but it also allows members to participate in several time honored traditions, the annual banquet and membership luncheon. During these events attendees pay tribute to their peers receiving awards for hard work and dedication to their profession. Senior counselors are honored for their years of service and past presidents of the Kentucky Bar Association are recognized.
