The Board of Governors met on Friday, March 20, 2015. Officers and Bar Gover- nors in attendance were, President B. John- son ; President-Elect D. Farnsley ; Vice Presi- dent M. Sullivan ; Immediate Past President T. Rouse and Young Lawyers Division Chair B. Sayles ; Incoming YLD Chair T. Watkins . Bar Governors 1 st District – M. Pitman , F. Schrock ; Bar Governors 2 nd District – T. Ker- rick , J. Meyer ; 3 rd District – M. Dalton ; 4 th District – A. Cubbage ; 5 th District – W. Garmer , E. O'Brien ; 6 th District – S. Smith , G. Sergent ; and 7 th District – M. McGuire , J. Vincent . Bar Governors absent were: H. Mann and B. Simpson In Executive Session, the Board considered three (3) discipline cases, five (5) default dis- ciplinary cases, involving three attorneys and one (1) restoration. Judy Campbell of Frankfort, Dottye Moore of Elizabethtown and Dr. Leon Mooneyhan non-lawyer mem- bers serving on the Board pursuant to SCR 3.375, participated in the deliberations. In Regular Session, the Board of Governors conducted the following business: Heard status reports from the 2015 An- • nual Convention Planning Committee, Investment Committee, Legislative Outreach Committee and Rules Com- mittee. Public Advocate Edward Monahan and • Public Advocacy Commission Chair Jerry Cox presented the DPA FY 2014 Annual Litigation Report. President-Elect Douglass Farnsley re- • ported that the Diversity & Inclusion Summit will be held on April 10, 2015, at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville with a pipeline service project held the prior day at the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law. Farnsley reported that much support has been received from the Supreme Court, the Kentucky Bar Foundation and law firms with $27,000 in sponsorships being donated. Farns- ley reported that 60 have registered to date and that members can receive six hours of CLE credit for $100.00. Young Lawyers Division Chair (YLD) • Bradley Sayles reported on the follow- ing activities of the Division: sponsor- ing approximately 30 CLE programs at the annual convention, March issue of the Bench & Bar will be articles regard- ing substantial legal issues having been authored by young lawyers. Legal Aid Project, Outstanding Awards, Law Stu- dent Mixer, Why Chose Law Program, Bully-Proof Project and the Project Street Youth program. Vice President R. Michael Sullivan re- • ported on his recent trip to the ABA Bar Leadership Institute in Chicago. Sullivan reported that the ABA stresses having a living, breathing, working and sometimes modified strategic plan and that the KBA is about to undergo this process to keep on track and know the issues that need to be addressed. Sul- livan also reported that the ABA presi- dent addressed the changes and challenges which will face the Bar, in- cluding artificial intelligence through computers to answer legal questions and on-line forms. Approved the following 2015 Distin- • guished Awards: K. Gregory Haynes of Louisville as the recipient of the Distin- guished Lawyer Award; Brian Scott West of Richmond as the recipient of the Bruce K. Davis Special Service Award; Professor Allison Connelly of Lexington and Jeff Been of Louisville as co-recipients of the Donated Legal Services Award and Pete Perlman of Lexington as the recipient of the Presi- dent's Special Service Award. Approved payment of expenses for • current and incoming Board members to attend the Board of Governors meeting on June 16 and the conven- tion itself on Jun 17-19 as follows: Lodging at the Hyatt Regency Hotel at a rate of $145.00 single/double per night for a maximum of four (4) nights and be reimbursed for round trip mileage at the rate of forty-one cents ($0.41) per mile and meal expenses in- curred on Monday, June 15 and Tues- day, June 16 above and beyond group meal functions on those dates. Approved waiving convention registra- • tion fees for the Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and AOC staff attorneys. President William E. Johnson reported • that he has appointed a Task Force on Lawyer Malpractice Insurance to be co- chaired by Charles E. "Buzz" English, Jr., of Bowling Green and Beverly R. Storm of Covington. Ratified the email vote to waive regis- • tration fees for the judiciary to attend the Diversity & Inclusion Summit as well as the Annual Convention. Ratified the email vote for approval of • LGBT Section following a KBA Bylaw revision which no longer required ap- proval by the Supreme Court for a sec- tion to be created. The Board originally approved the group as a sec- tion at their September 2014 meeting. Executive Director John Meyers up- • dated the Board on the progress of the IT conversion and the website. Meyers reported that renovations to • the Board Room at the Bar Center will begin July 1, 2015. Renovations in- clude a drop down media screen and mounted projection system, redeco- rated walls, new carpeting and new chairs. Estimated completion date is September 1, 2015. Meyers reported that the Kentucky Bar • Foundation/IOLTA Executive Director Search Committee met and has a pro- posed ad that will be sent by a blast email to the KBA membership and published in the Bench & Bar. The goal is to have someone hired by Sep- tember 1 in order to work with Todd Horstmeyer before he leaves October 1.
