The Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Commission is pleased to announce the Kentucky Supreme Court's new appoint- ments to the commission. For the First Supreme Court District, Jason Franklin Dar- nall of Benton, Ky., has been appointed, and for the Sixth Supreme Court District, David Bryan Sloan of Covington, Ky., has been appointed. These appointments be- came effective on July 1, 2015. Jason F. Darnall is a na- tive of Marshall County. He attended the Univer- sity of Kentucky, receiv- ing a Bachelor of Arts in political science. From there, he graduated magna cum laude from Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Ken- tucky University. While in law school, he served as editor of the Northern Kentucky Law Review and was awarded the Order of the Curia. Immediately following law school, he clerked for former Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Rick A. Johnson, where he assisted in drafting hundreds of appellate court decisions. In 2004, he be- came Assistant Marshall County Attorney and began a private law practice. Since that time, Darnall has prosecuted thousands of cases ranging from violations to felonies. He has tried dozens of civil and criminal cases to jury verdict, and has handled mat- ters in a wide range of practice areas, in- cluding estate planning, real estate, per- sonal injury, and general litigation. Darnall has been the City Attorney for the City of Hardin since 2007, and has also acted as le- gal advisor to the Marshall County Fiscal Court since 2004. He and his wife Jenny, who is an English and French teacher at Marshall County High School, live in Ben- ton. We look forward to Darnall's fresh per- spective on the commission David B. Sloan, a native of Virgie, Ky., is a part- ner with O'Hara, Ru- berg, Taylor, Sloan & Sergent in Crestview Hills, Ky. He earned his Bachelor of Arts De- gree from Berea Col- lege and his law de- gree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Ken- tucky University. Sloan concentrates his practice in the areas of in- surance defense litigation, particularly in the area of insurance coverage issues, crim- inal law, and workers' compensation. He is admitted to practice in Kentucky and Ohio, as well as before the United States District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Sloan is no stranger to serving his profession. He has served as president of the Northern Ken- tucky Bar Association, as a member of the Board of Governors and as past president of the Kentucky Bar Association (KBA), and was elected to the American Bar Associa- tion's House of Delegates. He is currently a member of the Character and Fitness Com- mittee of the Kentucky Office of Bar Admis- sions and a co-chair of the Kentucky Bar As- sociation's Diversity in the Profession Com- mittee. In 2013, he was appointed by Gov- ernor Steve Beshear to serve as a special justice on the Kentucky Supreme Court. Currently, he is a member of the Mine Safe- ty Review Commission for the Common- wealth of Kentucky and serves on the Berea College Board of Trustees. Sloan and his wife of 43 years, Cheri, live in Fort Mitchell, Ky. Sloan's invaluable experience will cer- tainly contribute to the commission, and we look forward to working with him. The CLE Commission is made up of one at- torney representative from each of the sev- en Supreme Court Districts. Each represen- tative is appointed by the Kentucky Supreme Court and volunteers his or her time in a spirit of public service with the goal of bettering the profession we have chosen. In addition to the seven attorney Commissioners, the KBA is fortunate enough to have Justice Michelle M. Keller serving as the Supreme Court Liaison to the KBA CLE Commission. The purpose of this commission is to ad- minister and regulate all continuing legal education programs and activities of the KBA. This includes ensuring that the mem- bers of the KBA complete high quality, timely continuing legal education program- ming each year. From developing and im- plementing rules and policies to ensure high standards in the accreditation of CLE programming, to developing and sponsor- ing quality programming, to regulating at- torney compliance with the mandatory min- imum CLE requirements, the CLE Commis- sion is working toward the increased com- petency of the legal profession in Kentucky. Mary Beth Cutter is the director for Continuing Legal Education of the Kentucky Bar Associa- tion. Cutter received her B.A. with distinction from Centre College, and her Juris Doctorate from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Following her admission to the Kentucky Bar, Cutter was engaged in private practice, fo- cusing primarily in the areas of health care, civil litigation, employment, real estate, and do- mestic law.
